Probably one of the most common questions I get asked by clients of My Bowen Clinic in Vancouver/ Burnaby Heights is “How does Bowen Therapy Work?”

The answer is complicated, however one thing is for sure, it works predominately on fascia. “What is fascia?” Science has learned that fascia is a communication network that covers every cell in the body!

To give you an image, it is a clear white sticky goo which coats every cell. You may have noticed when you pull chicken apart slowly, the little fiber strings which slowly let go…if you have, you’re looking at the fascia being pulled apart once the muscle cells release.

It’s like looking at a spider’s web with interwoven connecting strands and very delicate. This fascial network is faster than the nervous system in the body in regards to communication. Fascia networks links from the crown of your head to the tips of your toes!

This interconnection system also gives the body the shape with tensile strength due to the interconnected web. Fascia can develop tension or become dehydrated and collapse in on itself, pulling on muscles and nerves which may trigger a pain response. The body is very intelligent and lets us know when it needs help. With Bowen Therapy the fascia can be unwound and let go of the tension resulting in fascia release allowing the body to come back into balance.

Take Home Message: Very important to stay hydrated to allow this fascia matrix to support you in every way.
